How local DLP protection works

DLP Shield adds a practical checkpoint between your business information and the AI tools your team uses.

The short version

Content is checked on the device before it is shared. If a rule is matched, DLP Shield can warn, block or redact it according to your organisation’s screening plan.

The protection flow

Five simple steps

1

A person prepares a prompt or attachment

DLP Shield works at the point where information is about to be shared with ChatGPT or Claude.

2

The content is inspected locally

The prompt or document is checked on the person’s device against the screening plan set by your organisation.

3

Sensitive information is identified

Built-in categories and your own custom rules look for information such as personal details, credentials, financial data and confidential terms.

4

The right action is applied

Depending on your controls, DLP Shield can warn the user, keep the content out or help redact the sensitive information.

5

Only the approved version continues

The person can safely stop, amend or redact the content before anything is submitted to the AI service.

What can be screened?

DLP Shield can check text entered into a chat and supported attachments. Your organisation chooses which built-in sensitive data categories are active and can add custom rules for its own information.

  • Personal and contact information
  • Credentials and access details
  • Payment and banking information
  • Government and health identifiers
  • Customer, employee or account identifiers
  • Project names and confidential business terms

Central control, local inspection

Managed centrally

Administrators choose the screening plan, manage protected devices and keep controls consistent across Chrome on Windows PCs and Macs.

Checked locally

The content itself is inspected on the person’s device. This keeps the protection close to the point where information could leave the business.

A simple example

Before a customer record reaches AI

A team member attaches a document containing a customer email address and account number. DLP Shield checks the document locally, identifies the selected categories and shows the action set by the business. The user can keep the document out or redact the sensitive values before sharing.

Why this matters

Most accidental data sharing happens during ordinary work. A prompt is pasted quickly, a document is attached without being checked, or confidential text is included without much thought. Local DLP protection introduces a clear safeguard at that exact moment without requiring a complicated enterprise security stack.
